After the non-nominations caused criticism, “Barbie” leading actress Margot Robbie has now spoken out for the first time.
Margot Robbie (33) has broken her silence after a wave of criticism broke out online because the “Barbie” lead actress and director Greta Gerwig (40) were not included in this year’s Oscar nominations. “Of course I think Greta should be nominated as a director because what she’s done is a once-in-a-lifetime thing in her career,” Robbie said on Tuesday According to “Deadline” during a panel discussion with the “Barbie” cast at a special screening of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) union in Los Angeles.

Regarding her own missed Oscar nomination, the actress explained that there was no way she could be sad because she was so grateful for the experience. She is “overjoyed” about the eight nominations for “Barbie”: “It’s so wild.” It was “an incredible year” for all films and filmmakers.
The commercial and financial success of “Barbie” – the film was the most successful of 2023 with sales of more than 1.3 billion euros – is still overwhelming for Robbie. The film is “bigger than us” and “bigger than our industry.” “Barbie” has “done much more than we ever dreamed of and this is truly the greatest reward that could come from all of this,” the actress said modestly.
Eight Oscar nominations for “Barbie”
“Barbie” received a total of eight Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture. In addition to Ken actor Ryan Gosling (43), America Ferrera (39) also received a nomination for best supporting actress. Shortly after the announcement, Gosling was critical of Robbie and Gerwig’s non-nominations. “To say I’m disappointed they weren’t nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” Gosling wrote in a statementwhich is available to various media outlets such as “CBS News” and “The Independent”.
In addition to countless fans, there was further public support for Robbie and Gerwig from Hillary Clinton (76), John Stamos (60) and his wife Caitlin McHugh (37) and successful US author Brad Meltzer (53). How many Oscars “Barbie” ultimately wins will be shown at the awards ceremony on March 11th.
