This is the fastest Formula E ever, with a top speed of 280 km/h. At the same time, it also becomes lighter and more efficient compared to the previous generation.
Crowned with four championship titles, 15 victories and 44 podiums in Formula E, DS has just presented its new single-seater for the new season that is coming.
it’s about the DS E-Tense FE23 , the third generation of Formula E at DS, which is making an unprecedented leap in technology with, on the program, increased performance, but also new batteries, more durable and more eco-responsible. Improvements similar to those that we had already seen at Porsche with its 99X Electric Gen3.
More powerful and lighter
The DS E-Tense FE23 is fastest Formula E ever with an advertised maximum speed of 280 km/h. It is also lighter (60 kg less than the Gen2), and above all much more efficient with more than 40% of the energy used during a race coming from regenerative braking.
The DS E-Tense FE23 has four regenerative wheels. A new front powertrain adding 250 kW (340 hp) to the 350 kW (476 hp) at the rear is introduced. Thanks to the addition of the front powertrain, this single-seater is the first without hydraulic brakes at the rear.
There is also news concerning the batteries. These are advertised as “the most advanced and durable ever made”. They are composed of minerals from eco-responsible sources, while battery cells will be reused and recycled at end of life.
The recycling doesn’t stop there, as flax and recycled carbon fiber will be used in body construction for the first time in a racing car. The recycled carbon fiber comes from the previous car.
A laboratory for the electric car
The cars will be driven by Stoffel Vandoorne, reigning world champion, and Jean-Eric Vergne, double champion of the discipline. The first official tests for the ninth season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will take place in Valencia, Spain, from December 13-16.
Formula E is considered a giant laboratory for the electric car, even if it is not really felt in our daily lives. Brands test new technologies and then, if they work in competition, determine if they can have a place, both technically and economically, in our everyday electric cars.
