Russia: The aim was to meet top military officials

After the bombing of a Ukrainian cultural center in Vinnytsia that left at least 23 people dead – including three children – the Kremlin wants nothing to do with the allegations of terrorism. According to Moscow, a meeting between military representatives and arms suppliers was attacked – allegedly with success.

The Russian Defense Ministry has described the rocket fire in the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia, which killed more than 20 people, as an attack on a military object. The attack on the “Officers’ House” in the city center happened during a meeting attended by “the military leadership of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and foreign arms suppliers,” said Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov. According to him, all participants in the meeting were killed.

Ukraine condemned the rocket attack on Thursday. President Volodymyr Zelenskyj spoke of a terrorist attack. At least 23 people, including 3 children, were killed by the impact, according to Ukrainian sources. 71 injured are in the hospital, some of them are still in mortal danger. 18 people are considered missing. Images and videos circulated on social media document a large number of civilian victims of the attack.

The “House of Officers” in Vinnytsia serves as a concert hall. On the day of the attack, the singer Roxolana was supposed to perform there. The singer’s sound director is among the fatalities.

The federal government also condemned the Russian attack on Vinnytsia. “We are appalled by the Russian rocket fire,” said a government spokesman in Berlin. This should be condemned in the strongest terms. “The city of Vinnytsia is far away from any front lines.” It was an attack on the civilian population, in which children also died – an “act of cruelty” that shows that Russia repeatedly violates international law in the war.
