Major gaming publishers have been considering charging more money for their games for some time now. Ubisoft has now made a decision and is announcing hefty price increases. However, not all games will be affected.
More money for games: Ubisoft increases prices
Everything is getting more expensive these days. This now also affects the games of the French gaming publisher Ubisoft. In an interview, CEO Yves Guillemot now explains that he wants to join the competition. That’s why big AAA games for the current generation of consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) will cost $70 in the future. Games are already more expensive in Europe anyway, which is why Ubisoft will probably charge 79.99 euros here (source: Axios).
The first game that will be affected by the price increase is the one coming out in November Pirate online game Skull and Bones. Games like the next big Assassin’s Creed in Japan will probably become more expensive in the future. Games like the recently presented Assassin’s Creed Mirage are exceptions. Since this is not a full-price game, the price would also be lower. You can already pre-order Assassin’s Creed Mirage from €49.99 (see the Ubisoft Store).

Games for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are getting more expensive
While Ubisoft is only now raising the price, many gaming publishers have taken this step much earlier. Since the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, one has demanded the other more money for the games of the current generation. Among them are Take-Two, Activision Blizzard, EA and also Sony. Increased development costs are usually given as the reason.
As well as more expensive PS5 games the console itself now costs more. Both the PlayStation 5 with disc drive and the Digital Edition are now 50 euros more expensive.
