Another cancellation in the world of VS Fighting at the start of the year. Scheduled for February, the DBFZ World Championship finals are canceled, as are the Capcom Cup and the SF League final.
The competitive scene on fighting games seems to be having a lot of trouble lately. A little over two weeks ago, Capcom already announced the cancellation of Capcom Cup VIIIcompetition already canceled the year before and replaced, a second VS Fighting event to be canceled earlier this year concurrent with the Street Fighter League: World Championship 2021 Finals.
Today we learn from by Bandai Namco Esports than the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Championship finals, originally scheduled for next February, will not take place. Again, the blame lies with COVID-19. Many solutions have been studied, says the studio, as to how to hold this event to guarantee players and those concerned the security they deserve despite the rapid spread of the Omicron variant. Despite this, Bandai Namco had to take the unfortunate decision to postpone the event which was to take place on February 19 and 20.
In consideration of everyone’s safety under the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to indefinitely postpone the DRAGON BALL FighterZ World Championship Finals, which was scheduled in February.

The studio says, however, that they will continue to investigate this matter. depending on how the situation will develop in the future and if they plan to reorganize the event again later. In the meantime, a special online event has been announced for the DRAGON BALL Games Battle Hour 2022 in which the World Championship Finals were originally to be streamed.
It is therefore a difficult start to 2022 for the world of fighting games, who has so far lost 3 tournaments in the space of only 3 weeks. Like what, the pandemic has not finished influencing the video game industry.
