after the catastrophic launch, the studio avoids the worst

CD Projekt Red has just won a major victory which directly concerns Cyberpunk 2077. It is the end of a long fight of several years for the studio.

For most of you, we don’t tell you anything by reminding you that Cyberpunk 2077 had a chaotic launch. And again, the word is weak. We could almost say that he left his mark on the history of the media because he was so talked about. Since then, CD Projekt Red has rectified the situation, but it was a long process. Moreover, you may be aware that he was even prosecuted because of that. We now have the end of the story regarding the trial.

The launch of Cyberpunk 2077 cost CD Projekt a lawsuit

What exactly happened? As a reminder, on December 24, 2020, a few weeks after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, the studio found itself in a difficult situation. Indeed, the Rosen law firm filed a complaint in California court which aimed to constitute a class action against the firm. This was not to compensate the players, but the investors, in particular those who had invested in shares in CD Projekt.

CD Projekt made false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose that Cyberpunk 2077 was virtually unplayable on current-generation Xbox or Playstation systems due to a massive number of bugs.

The outcome of this trial has just been reported to us. In truth, there had already been a breakthrough in December 2021. A $1.85 million deal had been reached, but the deal was not yet over. But that’s it, it’s over today, and the Polish studio is getting away with it. For good reason, no wrongdoing was admitted, which means that he more or less “won”. The road has been long and strewn with pitfalls, even if some players still have difficulty digesting what happened.

An ultimate edition is approaching

These days, Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t what it was when it launched. It’s even a fundamentally different game since the big 2.0 update. He also offered himself a DLC, Phantom Liberty, which was welcomed with open arms by the community. CD Projekt also announces that the extension has already reached 4.3 million sales, with 20% of former players falling for this new content.

We feel that water has flowed under the bridge, and besides, the base game is soon back in a new version. Indeed, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition was announced with great fanfare recently. This edition will be made available on December 5 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is an improved version of the game which includes the base adventure and that of the expansion. It will also be the first physical release for next-gen consoles. For the moment, we do not know its price, but leaks suggest that it could be around 59.99 euros.
