Is a new era dawning for Islam in France? The government – and more particularly the Ministry of the Interior, responsible for worship – is betting on it. The first edition of the Forum de l’islam de France (Forif) is held on Saturday, which brings together, in Paris, around a hundred actors, most of whom are involved in the management of the 2,600 Muslim places of worship in France. After burying the French Council for Muslim Worship (CFCM), which crashed because of its internal quarrels and its inability to deal with concrete issues, the executive is relying on a form of pragmatism to manage issues such as those chaplaincies, the status and training of imams, anti-Muslim acts or even the application of the recent “separatism law”.
Suggested by the prefects, the members of Forif were endorsed by Place Beauvau which, for example, crossed out the names of personalities from the Turkish organization of Milli Görus, in cold weather with the French authorities…
