After the Corona break: Easyjet flies Berlin-Cologne again

After a Corona break
Easyjet flies Berlin-Cologne again

In the Corona crisis, Easyjet is withdrawing from the domestic German market. But while the traffic light parties are negotiating more climate protection, the low-cost airline reactivates the route between Cologne and Berlin. The entire industry is again significantly expanding its range of flights.

The display boards at German airports are slowly becoming full again. With the winter flight schedule from Sunday, there are again more than two thirds of the flight offer from before the Corona crisis, according to the aviation industry. Compared to the pre-crisis level, the supply is 68 percent, as announced by the Federal Association of the German Aviation Industry (BDL). More flights will soon be offered again, including on the Berlin-Cologne route: Easyjet will reactivate the route on December 1st.

According to the BDL, there is a “disproportionate development” in domestic German air traffic. Here the resumption rate in the winter flight schedule is 50 percent. The association explained that there were many reasons. This included a change in the choice of means of transport for people who increasingly used cars and trains, advances in linking rail and air transport, and the elimination of travel reasons, for example due to canceled trade fairs and events.

However, one of the reasons soon disappears. Easyjet had withdrawn from the domestic German market, but is now returning. As of December, the low-cost airline will be flying the Berlin-Cologne route twelve times a week, as reported by Airliners.de. The British advertise with tickets from a good 32 euros. This means that Eurowings will again face more competition on the route.

In addition to domestic German air traffic, there are also larger gaps in travel plans in the Asia-Pacific region. There are still high entry barriers there. “Here there is an urgent need for practicable regulations for the entry regulations that are based on the actual pandemic,” demanded BDL General Manager Matthias von Randow.
