  • The railway and tourism group BVZ Holding transported significantly more passengers last year than in the previous year.
  • The company announced that the visitors were back after the Corona burglary.
  • The Gornergratbahn counted 664,593 passengers from Zermatt, which was 58.9 percent more than in the previous year.

This development strengthens the optimism that the record year 2019 can quickly be followed again. At that time, 813,701 visitors were transported.

More visitors from Asia

One reason for the improvement is a sharp increase in Asian visitors in the second half of the year. Thanks to the increase in individual travelers compared to group travelers, a higher average income could also have been generated per guest, which will have a positive effect on the annual result.

According to the communiqué, good figures are also emerging for the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) and the Glacier Express, which is operated jointly with the Rhaetian Railway. From January to November, MGB counted 7.29 million travelers, which corresponds to an increase of almost a third compared to the same period in 2021 and even significantly surpassed the first eleven months of the record year 2019.
