Directed by Blitz Bazawule, the feature film is a musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel about the struggles of an African-American woman living in the South in the early 1900s. The literary work has already been adapted on big screen in 1986 by Steven Spielberg.
The Color Purple also earned Whoopi Goldberg the Golden Globes for Best Actress in a Drama and an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
This new version is again produced by Steven Spielberg, as well as Quincy Jones and Oprah Winfrey, both of whom were already producing the 1986 film.
In this feature film which takes the songs from the hit musical that played on Broadway from 2005 to 2008, Halle Bailey embodies young Nettie, while singer Ciara plays the role of adult Nettie
