Cyberscore will quickly appear in your favorite applications and platforms. But do you know what it corresponds to?

The issue of personal data security is being taken more and more seriously by political authorities, at the French level, but also at the European level, where the Data Act has been put in place to guarantee this security. On the national territory, the legislator wanted to double this initiative and support consumers, by putting in place a quality symbol to know to what extent digital tools are secure on the issue. Which gave birth to Cyberscore.

The digital Nutri-score

How do you know if a store-bought product is nutritious? This is the question that gave birth to the famous Nutri-score. On this same model of a grade graded from A to F, the legislator created the Cyberscore, through law no. 2022-309 published on March 3, 2022.

To establish a rating, certification bodies will rely on several types of criteria:

  • The first, technical, will take into account objects such as the quality of security processes, or the location in which the data is stored;
  • the second, legal, will focus on the legal risks to which these digital players are subject, “ such as the existence of an extraterritorial law which could threaten the protection of personal data » according to specialist Khalil B.;
  • finally, a notion of reputation will be put in place. For example, it will take into account convictions by the authorities in charge “ of personal data protection or the number of software vulnerabilities updated “.

France will offer a cyberscore to guide users

Cyberscore attacks web giants first

The establishment of this label of trust will be done little by little. For the moment, only the largest digital operators, companies offering videoconferencing software such as Zoom or large messaging applications such as WhatsApp will be subject to this Cyberscore.

It will be established by audit service providers approved by the protection authority for this sector, the National Information Systems Security Agency (Anssi). The objective is to encourage citizens to prioritize using the services offered by those who are the most respectful of personal data.
