  • Following Henry Cavill’s departure from the Netflix Witcher series, there has been much speculation about his motivations and future plans.
  • As Superman in the DC Universe and Sherlock in Enola Holmes, he will remain with us for the time being.
  • Will he soon be seen as a WWII spy in a Guy Ritchie film?

Numerous reports are currently circulating about Henry Cavill’s person. At first, fans rejoiced at the news of his imminent return to the DCU as Superman. Then came the shock of his departure from The Witcher Netflix series.

He was also recently seen on Netflix in the “Enola Holmes” films as a great reinterpretation of the young Sherlock Holmes. Now, however, Cavill will soon be breaking new ground and playing a spy in a Guy Ritchie World War II film (via US magazine Deadline).

WWII British Secret Service as the setting for Henry Cavill’s latest franchise

Cavill and Ritchie’s Reunion is the cinematic adaptation of the 2015 novella by Damien Lewis, The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare. It is about the secret service adventures of Prime Minister Winston Churchill and James Bond creator Ian Fleming.

Together, the two create a special force of soldiers to lead covert operations against the Nazis across Europe. A story that brings back strong memories of Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds”.

Cavill as a James Bond-esque agent and soldier during WWII?

This stuff seems like it was made for the combo Ritchie and Cavill, who together last made their mark on the action espionage genre in 2015 with “Codename UNCLE”.

Director Ritchie and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are already planning their own new franchise for a film based on “The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare”.

We've known since at least that Henry Cavill has what it takes to be a stylish go-getter agent "Mission: Impossible 6 - Fallout".

Many saw Cavill play the next James Bond. Now the Brit and self-confessed nerd will play a historical “earlier version” of Bond in World War II in his own new franchise.

Departure of “The Witcher” in favor of a WWII film?

Could it be possible that Henry Cavill’s departure from the Witcher Netflix series has something to do with his interest in playing a swashbuckling secret agent in a spy thriller? After all, appearing in several franchises at the same time is an enormous burden and time challenge.

Cavill may have grown tired of playing Geralt the Witcher out of dissatisfaction with creative choices made by Netflix. Finally, Cavill “The Witcher” was also personally very important because of his love for the books and video games in the witcher cosmos. We gradually got to know that something behind the scenes wasn’t quite right.

A historical-fictional project starring Guy Ritchie could present a long-awaited new challenge for Cavill. So obvious reasons for Cavill to decide against “The Witcher” and for “The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare”.
