After Westworld, Anthony Hopkins returns to TV in an unexpected series

Anthony Hopkins will hold one of the main roles in the gladiator series “Those About to Die”, developed by director Roland Emmerich for the Peacock platform.

After the cowboys in Westworld, Anthony Hopkins goes back in time again to explore this time the era of the Roman Empire. The Welsh actor, winner of two Oscars (for The Silence of the Lambs and The Father) is indeed announced in the casting of the series of gladiators Those About to Die, adapted from the eponymous book by Daniel P. Mannix.

Published in 1958, the work has never been translated into French, despite its success in bookstores. However, he is credited in particular as the unofficial source of inspiration for Ridley Scott’s Gladiator.

The task of adapting this book was entrusted to German filmmaker Roland Emmerich, better known for his disaster blockbusters than for his historical reconstructions, and screenwriter Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan).

The filming of the series Those About to Die will begin soon in Italy, while the rest of the cast has not yet been revealed. Remember that the program will be broadcast exclusively on the Peacock streaming platform, currently unavailable in France.
