After WhatsApp, avatars animate your Instagram profile… but for what, exactly?

A few weeks after their deployment on WhatsApp, avatars are responsible for animating your profile picture on Instagram.

At the very end of last year, the Meta group celebrated the arrival of the now famous avatars within the WhatsApp messaging application. These offer users new ways to express themselves by always pushing the personalization of the messaging service a little further.

Today, it’s the turn of another Meta application to optimize the uses of these same avatars, namely Instagram. Starting today, network users will gradually be able to adopt a new “dynamic” profile image.

For Meta, we imagine that this is to encourage as many users as possible to familiarize themselves with their avatar with a view to an upcoming migration to the in-house metaverse.

Avatars as an Instagram profile picture, how does it work?

First of all, it should be remembered that the function is being deployed on Instagram. It can therefore take a few days or weeks before being available on your smartphone.

To configure your new dynamic profile photo on Instagram, you must access your account, then validate the “Edit profile” command. To the right of your photo, you will see a new logo that will allow you to shape your dynamic avatar.

The customization possibilities are (very) numerous, and you will be able to define your skin color, your haircut, the shape of your eyes as well as their color, adjust your facial hair, wear an outfit to your liking, equip yourself with various accessories… Once the configuration is complete, all you have to do is validate the operation. After a brief load, your avatar is ready, and with it, a selection of new stickers are available.

From then on, your profile picture will automatically switch for a short time to your avatar when users visit your profile. They can also swipe your profile picture to bring out the little animation.

Meta specifies that this update is also the first to introduce an animation of the avatar, which will make a small sign of the hand when it is displayed. So, useful or not?
