Caroline Vigneaux victim of rape by a relative: these chilling details

In his latest show, entitled In Vigneaux veritas, Caroline Vigneaux opens up about the rape she suffered at 26 years old. A traumatic event about which she shared further details, this Sunday, May 5, with our colleagues at The Tribune on Sunday. In 2001, when she was coming out of a long relationship, the comedian received a visit from her former partner’s best friend. A man she was close to and trusted.

I let him in. He stays asleep. Besides, he’s a friend, so why would I be in danger?“, recalled Caroline Vigneaux. But, when she woke up, the former lawyer realized that the man she considered a friend was “in the process of [la] violate“.”I don’t move, don’t scream. I was paralyzed, she added. Once finished, he got dressed again, then left.” An abominable act which – at the time – had unfortunately encouraged her to feel guilty and to consider that she was responsible for what had happened to her.

Caroline Vigneaux: how did she get rid of her “guilt“?

Last January, Caroline Vigneaux had already mentioned her rape in the pages of Gala. If she lived long – “wrongly” – with “a form of guilt“, the mother revealed that he had helped her get better. “I didn’t want anyone to label me or look at me differently. I decided to live with it. I put this sexual assault in a small, locked box in my head. I didn’t want to open it anymore“, she remembered.

But with the arrival of the #MeToo movement, Caroline Vigneaux was finally able to get rid of this feeling of shame. “JI told myself that I wasn’t the only one and it made me feel good to know that it wasn’t me, the problem. I found these women courageous and I wanted to say thank you to them. Thanks to them, I felt better in my head and in my skin“, she added, calming down.
