In a long post on his private website, he accused the government of twisting the truth and retrospectively talking up its decisions in the corona pandemic.
Cummings also published alleged screenshots of private Whatsapp messages from Boris Johnson. In it, Johnson is said to have described his cabinet colleague and Minister of Health Matt Hancock as “totally fucking hopeless” with regard to the development of the corona test system last year.
In another message, he is also said to have suggested removing Hancock from his post. In the published excerpts, the sender is named as “Johnson Boris”. On request, Downing Street stated that it did not want to comment in detail on the pictures, but did not deny their authenticity. A government spokesman told the PA news agency that the prime minister continued to have full confidence in Hancock.
It is not the first time that the former Johnson confidante has given out: In an hour-long questioning, he raised serious allegations against the government a few weeks ago. Politicians failed, especially at the beginning of the pandemic. Health Minister Hancock lied several times, for example when purchasing protective equipment or during corona tests for old people’s and nursing homes.
Hancock himself denied the allegations in an interrogation and asked Cummings to provide evidence to support his allegations. “I got out of bed every morning with the view and attitude that it is my job to protect lives and to free this country from the pandemic,” he emphasized to the committee last week. He always acted with “honesty” and “integrity” and felt Johnson’s trust.
Dominic Cummings, who became known as the key strategist behind the “Vote Leave” campaign for Brexit, left Downing Street at the end of last year after a bitter internal power struggle in the inner circle of government headquarters.
