The double authentication system imposed at the entrance to porn sites by French law could scare away a good part of its followers, if it were to be really put in place.

The next few months promise to be eventful for the vast online porn industry, which must feel oppressed on all sides, between ARCOM and its various legal actions, and the government’s willingness to go through the law to win. time in the process of blocking sites. But this impulse to do everything to block the path of minors on the path of pornographic platforms could put off many French people.

The French not really thrilled with the blocking measures

According to an IFOP survey carried out by our colleagues from 01net and relayed by BFM TVthe restrictions that weigh on pornographic sites cool the ardor of French men and women up to 1 in 4 users. More precisely, 27% of respondents explain that they would give up visiting these sites, in the event that the access would be enhanced.

Here we are talking about double authentication which is a measure that porn sites should in theory apply since the law of July 30, 2020 and which prohibits in principle the access of minors and is absolutely not respected today, even if certain protagonists in the sector such as Dorcel are trying their hand at it.

Going back to the survey, let’s remember that nearly 3 out of 4 French people are in favor of the principle of tightening the conditions of access to pornographic platforms, precisely to prevent minors from accessing them and to protect them more, even if they concede after reflection that the blocking systems will be easily circumvented.

A first response in the judicial field on Friday?

What would these blocking measures be? French law requires sites to prevent minors from entering them, but it does not oblige them to do so in this or that way. And that’s what bothers ARCOM, the digital regulator, weary, there is no other word, to see that things are not progressing and that its legal actions are dragging on.

Nevertheless, the authority could obtain an important victory this Friday, July 7, with the long-awaited decision of the Paris court. The judge must rule on ARCOM’s request to block minors from Pornhub, Xvideos, XHamster, Tukif and Xnxx sites. In a particular context, therefore, where more and more young people are accessing adult content.

The hypothesis that we hear the most about today is that of the verification of the identity of the minor by means of the identity card or bank details, all through a trusted third party. It remains to be seen who, when and how this verification will be introduced.
