Summary

How to play Ying

Role: Entry Fragger

Entry Fraggers are the backbone of your team. They constitute a force capable of penetrating the initial line of defense and giving an advantage to the attackers. This role assignment means that Ying will be the main operator in the hunt for roamers.

In addition, Ying is particularly effective at pushing objectives thanks to his Candelas.

Difficulty

Hard

Ying may come across as easy to pick up. However, its double-edged ability requires a great mastery of the fundamentals.

  • Requires significant knowledge of cards and strategies
  • Requires an aggressive but calculated style
  • Requires great coordination with his team

What equipment to choose for Ying

Which main weapon to choose

Ying offers two main weapons, the T-95LSW and the SIX12.

Surprisingly, the shotgun SIX12 isn’t a bad choice for Ying’s main weapon. Indeed it complements his ability quite well, prompting Ying to opt for close-range engagements. However, the T-95LSW remains a very versatile weapon which will be much more flexible than the SIX12.

Which secondary weapon to choose

The Q929 is the only pistol available to SDU agents. It’s a very reliable gun with a high damage of 60 per bullet and a decent 10 ammo per magazine.

Which gadget to choose

Ying has access to two universal gadgets: the Heavy breach charge and the Smoke Grenade.
Choosing the right gadget will largely depend on your playstyle, with both options being perfectly viable.

We will move towards the Smoke Grenade for their versatility.

Single ability

The Candelas are Ying’s unique ability in Rainbow Six Siege.

Candelas

Candelas are blinding explosives that can be both thrown and planted.

  • Each Candela can emit six flashes that work differently from stun grenades
  • Their ranges are greater than stun grenades (about 10 meters)
  • Each flash will be able to blind an agent for 0.5 seconds and up to a cumulative maximum of 1.4 seconds.
  • Candelas can be used in two different ways:
    • The first is to throw the Candela like a regular grenade. This will explode and trigger flashes in the star-shaped area
    • Candelas can be placed on a destructible surface. The flashes will be fired in a straight line from right to left.
  • Candelas can be “charged” so flashes fire faster. The number of lit lights on the Candela will indicate the activation time:
    • One light – 5 second delay
    • Two LEDs – 3 second delay
    • Three lights correspond 1 second delay
  • Candelas act like regular grenades when thrown. However, they roll after their impact on the ground instead of bouncing.

Remember that Candelas are able to blind your opponents as well as your allies. Using them could therefore well cause the failure of your team. Timing and quick derision will undoubtedly be your greatest assets with Ying.
