Gemini continues to unfold. The application that offers AI on Android is now available on versions prior to Android 12.
Generative AI has been on the rise for a little over a year, with the arrival on the market of ChatGPT. A product signed OpenAI (in collaboration with Microsoft) to which the company which has long been considered the leader in artificial intelligence, namely Google, had to respond. Since then, we have been able to benefit from Bard, now Gemini, accessible not only on PC, but also through an application. And if the latter was previously reserved for Android 12, it will now be able to be downloaded on older smartphones!
Gemini available on Android 10
We are increasingly seeing generative AI taking hold everywhere, whether at the largest companies in the world, like Coca-Cola, or in the devices right next to us (or in our pocket!). This is how Gemini AI can be used as an app for anyone who has Android 12 version on their smartphone.
And from now on, you don’t even need to have the latest version of this OS to converse with the Google chatbot! Indeed, the specialist in Google applications on X, AssembleDebug, indicated to Android Authority that a small change had been made to the Gemini APK. Its latest version, dated April 22, indicates that it now supports Android 10 or higher.
Old smartphones will be able to use AI
Enough to open Gemini to many more smartphones! According to figures established by Statcounter, 60% of Android smartphones worldwide work with Android 12. But 85% of devices using this operating system benefit from Android 10 or a later version.
When we know that Android has nearly 2.5 billion users worldwide, that means several hundred million older devices that will suddenly be able to install the application. If you are the happy owner of a phone that has lasted well, you too will be able to get started with AI!
