Catherine, Princess of Wales
Her radiantly beautiful appearance during the coronation
Catherine, Princess of Wales turned heads during King Charles’ coronation. One year after the historic event, we look back at her iconic look.
It was already a much discussed topic before the event: What does Catherine, Princess of Wales, 42, wear for the coronation of King Charles, 75? In the end, her outfit went down in history – and now, a year after the special day, let’s take another look.
Catherine, Princess of Wales: Her earrings are a tribute to Princess Diana
The Princess of Wales appears at the coronation of King Charles with her husband, Prince William, 41, at Westminster Abbey. An extravagant headband by Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen is enthroned on her head, consisting of three-dimensional leaf embroidery made of silver bars, crystal and silver threads, which taper upwards like a tiara. Particularly beautiful: Kate chooses earrings with diamonds and South Sea pearls, which have a horseshoe pattern at the top and artfully connected marquise-cut diamonds underneath. The earrings once belonged to the late Princess Diana – and are now being used again on this special day.
Kate relies on Alexander McQueen
The first photos reveal Kate’s dress: it’s a model from Alexander McQueen and is made from ivory silk crepe with silver bullion and thread embroidery featuring rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock motifs. The 42-year-old is wearing a blue coat from the Royal Victorian Order. White lace pumps complete her special look.
A connection to Kate’s wedding dress
Kate already wore the embroidery on the coronation dress in 2011 – on no other dress than her own wedding dress, which was also designed by Sarah Burton, designer and creative director of the British fashion house Alexander McQueen. Definitely a nice memory for Kate.
