Air quality: in Nantes, a “bad” situation this Thursday and Friday

According to Air Pays de la Loire, the maintenance of high pressure conditions and low temperatures favor the accumulation of fine particles.

New air quality alert in Nantes. The situation will be “bad” this Thursday and Friday Air Pays de la Loire alert. The association which monitors the air quality in the region specifies that this episode stems from an accumulation of fine particles PM2.5 and PM10 due to the “maintenance of anticyclonic conditions and low temperatures”. A judged weather “not conducive to the dispersion of pollutants from road traffic and urban heating”.

This Thursday, the degradation does not only impact the Nantes conurbation. Almost all of Loire-Atlantique is affected. Only the municipalities of the Guérande peninsula are spared. This Friday, the situation will be bad in the Nantes conurbation and the south-east of the department.

Limit intense physical activities

Faced with this degraded air quality, Air Pays de la Loire recommends that populations “to adopt good gestures”. This includes favoring soft mobility for travel, contacting a health professional “in case of respiratory or cardiac discomfort” and limit strenuous physical activity outdoors.

For its part, the prefecture of Loire-Atlantique has launched an information procedure for this Thursday. This provision does not entail any binding measure but aims to inform individuals and professionals of the recommendations to follow.
