Airbus: developing wireless connectivity from space

(CercleFinance.com) – Airbus announces that it is working with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), NTT DOCOMO (DOCOMO) and SKY Perfect JSAT to study the feasibility of a collaboration around future high-altitude stations (HAPS – high- altitude platform stations), enabling the development of an ecosystem of wireless connectivity from space.

The memorandum of understanding signed between the partners aims to identify the initial requirements for the deployment of such a network.

In this context, the partners could notably rely on the Zephyr, a stratospheric, unmanned, fixed-wing solar-powered aerial system from Airbus, as well as on the wireless communication networks of NTT, DOCOMO and SKY PerfectJSAT.

In order to advance 5G and eventually introduce 6G, initiatives are underway to extend coverage around the world, including in the oceans and in the air, as well as in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
