(AOF) – Air France-KLM (-3.48% to 12.03 euros), IAG (-3.36% to 151.10 euros), Lufthansa (-2.47% to 7.22 euros), Easyjet (-4.34% to 429.80 pence), Ryanair (-3.18% to 1,341 pence) and Wizz Air (-4.64% to 1,841 pence) are down sharply after the outbreak of violence in Middle East. This causes oil prices to rise (+2.96% to $86.93 per barrel of Brent). Several companies have also had to interrupt their connections with the region: Air France-KLM has indicated that it has suspended its connections until further notice. Their supplier Airbus is also backing down.
Several European and American airlines announced the suspension of their flights to the Jewish state, waiting for the situation to stabilize, while the Israeli national company El Al declared that it would maintain its flights.
In a document released this morning, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency asks airlines to “follow all available aeronautical publications issued by the authorities of the State of Israel, as well as any available advice or instructions with their national authorities. They “must ensure that a robust risk assessment is in place, as well as a high level of contingency planning for their operations, and be prepared to receive short-term instructions from Israeli authorities.”
The decline in the air sector is symmetrical to the increase in the defense sector in all European markets, in anticipation of a new war between Israel and Hamas: Thales, Dégal Aviation and Safran in Paris, BAE Systems in London.
