AJ McLean: The Backstreet Boy is a candidate for US dance show

Surprise! Backstreet Boy AJ McLean appears on "Dancing with the Stars". There is support from band colleague Nick Carter.

Backstreet Boy singer AJ McLean (42, "Have It All") has proved that he is a gifted dancer in the course of his career. But now he's taking on a very special challenge. The 42-year-old will take part in the new season of the US dance show "Dancing with the Stars", as he happily announced on Twitter. The TV broadcaster ABC confirmed its participation.

Support from his family and bandmate Nick Carter

McLean writes on Twitter that he is "so grateful" to participate in the coming season. "I would like to thank my wife and two daughters for letting Daddy go on this adventure". McLean also receives support from his band colleague Nick Carter (40), who took part in the US counterpart of the RTL show "Let's Dance" in 2015 and took second place. McLean said he spoke to Carter a few days ago in an interview with "Good Morning America". "On the one hand, he encouraged me, on the other hand, I was scared."

Even if he has been dancing since he was six, the show posed a great challenge for him. "I have never danced the foxtrot in the past 27 years," joked the singer.

McLean became known worldwide with the Backstreet Boys in the 90s. The five-piece boy band around Nick Carter, Brian Littrell (45), Howie Dorough (47), Kevin Richardson (48) and McLean became one of the most successful boy bands worldwide with hits like "I'll Never Break Your Heart" and "Everybody".
