Alec Baldwin
Hollywood star urges “quick procedure”
Alec Baldwin apparently wants to get the manslaughter trial over with quickly.
“Minimize public denigration and suspicion”
A good two and a half years after the shooting on the “Rust” set that cost camerawoman Halyna Hutchins (1979-2021) her life, the exact circumstances and questions of guilt are still not exactly clear. The Hollywood star now faces up to three years in prison in the trial. “Mr. Baldwin asserts his right to a speedy trial,” it said in a letter from the lawyers, which released “Deadline.” The actor is “entitled to a fair and speedy decision on the charges in order to minimize public vilification and suspicion.”
Did Baldwin pull the trigger or not?
The tragic incident occurred on October 21, 2021 on the set of the western film “Rust”. A prop gun that Alec Baldwin was holding at a rehearsal was apparently loaded with live ammunition and went off. How this could have happened is still unclear. The Hollywood star has repeatedly emphasized that he did not pull the trigger. The first criminal charges against him were dropped in April 2022. At that time, however, a statement from the investigating authority said that they reserved the right to charge him again if new facts emerged. In mid-August, another report came to the conclusion that the actor did pull the trigger.
There are also said to be civil lawsuits against Alec Baldwin and other producers, including from members of the film crew. According to US media reports, the judges have put these proceedings on hold until the criminal case is concluded. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was responsible for the weapons on set, was also charged with involuntary manslaughter. Her trial is scheduled for February.
