MOSCOW (Reuters) – The remains of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny were buried on Friday in a Moscow cemetery following a brief religious ceremony in his memory in a church in the Russian capital, in the presence of hundreds of people massed in front of the building, declared Ivan Zhdanov, one of his supporters, on the social network X.
The crowd chanted the name “Navalny” as the coffin arrived at midday at the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God, during a funeral held under tight security.
The body of the opponent, whose sudden death in detention, at the age of 47, was announced on February 16 by the Russian penitentiary service, was then transported to the Borissovskoye cemetery, on the other side of the Moskva River. , 2.5 km away.
