This future SUV will respond to the sweet name of Milano. Several versions will be available, micro-hybrid or fully electric.

Evoking the name Alfa Romeo brings back certain iconic models, such as the Spider, the Giulia or the Giulietta. It also means realizing that it is one of the incarnations of Italian industrial and cultural heritage. Some may not be thrilled with the idea that Alfa will offer an electric SUV in just under a year, but this deliberate choice is in the vein of our times. The brand had not yet developed a model that completely dispensed with thermal technology. Simply, variations of already existing vehicles like the Giulia, for example, or the Tonale, a plug-in hybrid.

Identity and technical characteristics

For the moment, no photographs have leaked, except this rather mysterious trailer. Speculation was rife about the future name of the SUV. Some were counting on Brenner (Passo del Brennero, one of the most important passages through the Alps), but the brand therefore chose to title it soberly Milano. A tribute to the city where the brand was founded on June 24, 1910.

Let’s not forget that Alfa now belongs to the Stellantis group, and that its future model will potentially be based on the Peugeot 3008 or Fiat 600e models. Your choice: a mild hybrid gasoline engine of 100 or 136 horsepower, but also a four-wheel drive and 100% electric version. The sporting heritage is very far away. The specifics of the powertrain are still shrouded in mystery, but the top-of-the-range version should offer an experience of sporty driving. It’s Jean-Philippe Imparato, the brand’s boss, who tells us.

A very soon launch

The launch schedule has already been established by Alfa Romeo:

  • Official presentation of Milano in April 2024.
  • Testing phases in June 2024.
  • Arrival at the concessions at the start of the school year, in September.

The Milano will mark the brand’s return to the B segment of urban models, with a length estimated between 4.2 and 4.3 meters. A size which is therefore close to the Fiat 600e or the Peugeot 2008. A small SUV, which is a little suspicious of the category of electric sports city cars, like the Volkswagen ID.2 GTI or the Alpine A290. In terms of autonomy, there too the mystery is complete, but we can count on a good 400 km, like its cousins.
