Alicia Witt opens up about her parents for the first time after they were found dead in their home a month ago and also reveals their bizarre living conditions.

Actress Alicia Witt, 46, is devastated. She still can’t believe the sudden death of her parents. Robert Witt, 80, and Diane Witt, 75, were found dead at their home in Massachusetts just last month. An official cause of death has not yet been released, but the “Dune” actress is now revealing the bizarre circumstances in which her parents lived for years.

Alicia Witt: No access to the parental home for over 10 years

“It still doesn’t feel real,” Alicia wrote on Instagram alongside a series of private photos with her late parents: “It’s been a month since I hadn’t heard from them and I sent someone over to check on my parents . Waiting, phone in hand, praying fervently for the next call to come from them. As soon as I heard the police officer’s voice on the other end of the line, I knew they were gone and I realized I would never hear their voices again. They were brilliant educators, deeply kind, curious, intuitive, wise, young at heart, funny – there will never be enough adjectives to describe them. The circumstances surrounding the sudden death of my parents have become fodder for the press and understandably some misunderstandings are circulating. Writing this is very sensitive for me because I want to respect your privacy. There is a terrible irony in the fact that because of the efforts they made to protect their privacy in life, that privacy was taken away in death.” Witt goes on to say that her parents refused any form of help, and so did she hadn’t had access to her parents’ home for over a decade.

Parents refused any form of help

“I helped them where I could – if they would even let me. My parents refused any form of help and refused to let workers into their house. I begged, cried, tried to reason with them and tried them to finally accept help. But every time they got angry with me and said I had no right to tell them how to live their life. I had no idea that the heating stopped working. My parents were no way destitute, but just very stubborn”.

Authorities found no signs of noxious gases at the scene and no obvious trauma, according to the Telegram & Gazette. The local paper added that “freezing temperatures, a broken stove, makeshift space heaters and a house in need of repair” potentially contributed to Robert and Diane’s deaths. “Our last words to each other were ‘I love you,'” Alicia writes. “They loved me so. I loved them so”.
