Launched at the beginning of August on the French market, the Alienware Aurora R16 was until now equipped with Intel 12 processorse or 13e generations, depending on the configuration chosen. Today, the device is opening up to new horizons, with the arrival on board of processors Intel Raptor Lake-S Refresh.
Completely redesigned two months ago, the Alienware Aurora R16 is the new “mid-tower” desktop PC from Dell’s gaming subsidiary. Designed to maximize airflow and offer a more advantageous power-to-size ratio, this new model swapped this summer the futuristic look of its predecessor (below, right) for a case with much more classic lines for some, many lazier for others.
A more classic, but more efficient box (Alienware promises)
With this new design, Alienware in any case promises efficiency…. at least in terms of cooling, with temperatures 7% lower on average on the CPU/GPU duo. The brand also estimates that it has produced a case that is 20% quieter, while being 40% more compact than that of the Alienware Aurora R15.
Thanks to a sleight of hand that Alienware keeps secret, the company has nevertheless managed to maintain 25.2 liters of internal volume within this new model, whose measurements do not exceed 458.4 x 418 x 197 millimeters for 15.37 kilos. Inside, two 120-millimeter fans sit on top (with a 240-millimeter radiator dedicated to cooling the CPU). A 120-millimeter fan is also housed on the front, and a final 120-millimeter fan is positioned at the rear to reject hot air outside the case.
When Raptor Lake-S Refresh chips arrive at Alienware
It will take no less to keep Intel’s new desktop processors cool. Because that’s the whole point of this new announcement from Alienware: the Aurora R16 will be among the very first desktop PCs on the market to be able to count on Intel Core 14 desktop processors.e generation Raptor Lake-S Refresh. Note that we are talking here about a simple refresh of the 13 chipse Raptor Lake generation, since the Meteor Lake architecture will not be available on desktop PCs before 2024. In other words, nothing revolutionary.
That being said, the Aurora R16 will now be able to count on two new CPU options. In addition to Intel 12 chipse or 13e generations already available, it will in fact be possible to opt for a Core i7-14700KF (16 cores) or a latest generation Core i9-14900KF (24 cores). Alienware also promises that overclocking will be possible up to 6.1 GHz.
Of course, we can always add to these processors the best that is available on the GPU market. For the Aurora R16, Alienware offers up to the RTX 4090 24 GB, while it will remain possible to install up to 64 GB of DDR5 RAM on board the machine.
For the moment, Alienware is not providing precise prices for these new configurations of the Aurora R16, but Dell France should tell us more soon. We will update this article as soon as possible with this information.
Update: Dell France lets us know that the Aurora R16 running 14th generation Intel Core will be available from October 17, starting at 1779 euros.
