Alienware strengthens its position on QD-Oled with two truly new screens

Dell Alienware seems determined to establish itself in the QD-Oled monitor market and is taking advantage of CES 2024 to confirm its two new screens, each representing a first in this area.

In 2022, the Dell Alienware 34 QD-Oled was released, the first PC monitor to be equipped with a QD-Oled panel. During our test of this screen, we were talking about “essential reference» for this screen that several members of the editorial team bought because it managed to catch our eye despite its high price.

Two years later, the American brand is taking advantage of CES 2024 in Las Vegas to confirm and detail two new, even more innovative QD-Oled screens: the Alienware 32 4K QD-OLED (AW3225QF) and the Alienware 27 360 Hz QD-OLED (AW2725DF). These were briefly announced already in October.

The first 4K QD-Oled screen

While the 2022 model capped at a WQHD definition (3440 x 1440 pixels), the Alienware 32 4K QD-Oled goes, as its name suggests, up to 4K UHD 3840 x 2160 pixels. Small nuance however: it is no longer an ultra wide format (32:9), but a more traditional format (16:9). It nevertheless remains curved with a curvature of 1700R, which is understandable given its size of 32 inches (80.32 cm to be precise).

Its panel displays ultra-premium features, with Dolby Vision and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 compatibility, 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 gamut, brightness exceeding 1000 nits and a delta E of less than 2 for such vibrant colors than natural.

The Alienware 32 4K QD-OLED is suitable for both PC and console gamers since it is Nvidia G-Sync and VESA AdaptiveSync compatible, with a refresh rate of up to 240 Hz via its DisplayPort 1.4, but also has two ports HDMI 2.1 FRL (Fixed Rate Link) compatible with VRR, ALLM, 4K120 and eARC. Its built-in “Console Mode” also adds dedicated HDR optimization.

Note that its gray-to-gray response time is 0.03 ms, which should make it an ideal screen for nervous games.

The first 360 Hz QD-Oled screen

The Alienware 27,360 Hz QD-OLED takes the prize in refresh rate on QD-Oled screens. If some LCD monitors now go up to 500 Hz, the QD-Oled finds its champion here with 360 Hz, on a QHD definition this time (2560 x 1440 pixels).

We find most of the benefits mentioned above. If Nvidia G-Sync gives way to AMD FreeSync Premium Pro (and still AdaptiveSync), it is still VESA HDR TrueBlack 400 certified (but not Dolby Vision). It also has a peak light of 1000 nits, a delta E of less than 2, a response time of 0.03 ms, and DCI-P3 coverage of greater than 99.3%.

On its back are two DisplayPort 1.4 (QHD 360 Hz), an HDMI 2.1 (QHD 144 Hz) and a slew of USB ports.

Release during the semester

True to form, Dell points out that these two screens are made from 85% recycled plastic and 100% recycled aluminum. The release of these two monitors is planned for the first half of 2024, without further details, at prices as yet undetermined.
