Almost 35 million euros for a painting

“Femme au béret rouge-orange” (“Woman with a red-orange beret”) from 1938 shows his lover Marie-Thérèse Walter, with whom he had a daughter and whom he painted dozens of times.

At the auction of the casino operator MGM Resorts on Saturday, a total of eleven paintings, paper drawings and ceramic works by the painter, who died in 1973, were for sale. According to the auction house Sotheby’s, they achieved a total of $ 109 million, including “Homme et enfant” for $ 24.4 million. MGM Resorts had announced that it wanted to make its own public art collection more diverse and inclusive. This Monday marks the 140th anniversary of Picasso’s birthday. (SDA)
