The VW brand increased its sales by almost seven percent last year. Deliveries of electric vehicles are increasing even more rapidly. Nevertheless, the company expects a “challenging market environment” for the current year.
Volkswagen sold noticeably more cars from its core VW brand last year. Sales increased by 6.7 percent to around 4.87 million cars, the company announced. In all regions, delivery figures exceeded the previous year’s level.
The demand for electric cars has also increased: a total of around 394,000 electric cars were handed over to customers, a good fifth more than a year ago. The greatest demand for fully electric vehicles from the Volkswagen brand came – in absolute numbers – from China, Germany, USA, Great Britain, Sweden, France, Norway and Belgium.
A “challenging market environment” is expected for the current year, said VW sales boss Imelda Labbe. More than every second Volkswagen car is now an SUV; In the USA it is even a good 80 percent. For the current year, VW is hoping for a boost from the new Tiguan and a further developed version of the T-Cross. As for the classics, the next version of the Golf will come onto the market in the spring.
