Almost all of Hessen is a hotspot

EIt’s still going up, and by leaps and bounds: a week ago, the seven-day incidence in Frankfurt was just under 680, and according to the Robert Koch Institute it rose to 1220 overnight. That’s 160 more than the day before. Currently, only five cities or metropolitan districts have more new corona cases recorded within a week than Frankfurt am Main. In second place in Hesse is the Hochtaunus with 970 after 917 on Monday, third in the group is the state capital with 919 after 868. These are all sad record numbers that have to do with the spread of the Omicron variant.

The Hessian health authorities reported 6,969 new cases overnight, more than twice as many as on February 11. Six deaths related to Covid-19 have been added. The usual delay in reporting from the weekend must also be taken into account. In this respect, even higher numbers are to be expected for Wednesday.

The Hesse incidence is 678 after 386 seven days ago. According to the Corona Bulletin of the Ministry of Social Affairs, almost all of Hesse is now a hotspot. Two districts, Hersfeld-Rotenburg and Waldeck-Frankenberg, have also been hotspots since midnight. Only the districts of Kassel, Schwalm-Eder and Werra-Meißner are not included. However, the incidence is well over 350 everywhere in Hesse, with the exception of Schwalm-Eder. This is the key mark. If a region is three days above this, it is classified as a hotspot. Then further protective rules apply, such as the obligation to wear masks in particularly occupied places in public and a ban on alcohol in the fresh air. After five days below the limit, the region falls out of the regulation again.

So far, an increased incidence has always resulted in more patients in the clinics. In the past few days, the clinics have not recorded an increase in intensive care units, but in normal wards. According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, there were 714 corona patients in normal wards, almost 100 more than a week ago. 233 Covid patients are looked after by the forces in intensive care units, 14 fewer than reported on February 11th. However, the trend here is also slightly upwards. This is also reflected in the hospitalization incidence. At 3.16, it is just below last Tuesday’s level and has also been well below 3 for the past few days.

According to the ministry, 64.2 percent of the corona patients treated in Hessian intensive care units are not vaccinated or not sufficiently vaccinated. That is 1.1 percentage points less than a week ago. 31.1 percent are fully vaccinated, almost three percentage points more. Overall, however, the values have been stagnating at this level for weeks.

According to the RKI, 71.3 percent of the Hessian population is fully vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2. “If only the age group from 12 years is taken into account, the fully immunized proportion is 80.2 percent,” according to the ministry.
