Less than a year after introducing its Alpha Evo range, Focal adds two new members to this young family with the Alpha 80 Evo and Alpha Twin Evo. As a small bonus, the French manufacturer has also unveiled the Sub One active subwoofer.

The Alpha Evo series, pro but affordable evolution of the Alpha range, follows the composition of Focal’s Alpha, Shape and SM6 lines with the addition of the Alpha 80 Evo. This model benefits from the same improvements (new design, integration of screw threads and TRS jack connectors, disengageable standby, removable protective grille, etc.) and the same two-way architecture as the Alpha 50 Evo and 65 Evo.
The 1-inch inverted dome tweeter stays in place, while the SlateFiber driver is offered here in an 8-inch diameter for more generous low-end extension, obviously with beefier internal amplification to back it up.
The Alpha Twin Evo also makes an appearance, in a slightly different format (horizontal arrangement) and featuring two 6.5-inch (16.5 cm) SlateFiber drivers in addition to the 1-inch inverted dome tweeter; the whole is powered by 2 x 50 W + 30 W class D amplification. No screws on this model, but all the other specificities present on the other Alpha Evo references are retained. Here is the technical information shared by Focal:

Focal Sub One

Focal did not stop there, since it unveiled the Sub One professional active subwoofer. This subwoofer also features SlateFiber speakers, but can be used in addition to any pair of monitoring speakers. Heavily armed, the Sub One benefits from two 8-inch woofers with two vents placed at the front, powered by a 2 x 100 W RMS class D bi-amplification, and offers a small range of settings: a low-pass filter (slope of 24 dB/octave), a high-pass filter (60, 90 Hz), a polarity inverter, or even a control to adjust the phase.
On the connector side, the Sub One is well equipped: LFE input and output (XLR), left and right input and output (XLR), footswitch input and output (6.35 mm jack) are integrated on the rear panel. Focal announces a frequency response between 32 Hz and 120 Hz, as well as a maximum sound pressure level of 114 dB SPL (peak @ 1 m). The Sub One is launched at a price of 859 €.
