Alphabet: Google further strengthens cybersecurity with AI

(CercleFinance.com) – Google, a subsidiary of the Alphabet group, unveiled on Friday a whole series of new tools to take advantage of artificial intelligence (AI) to strengthen online security.

The program – called the ‘IA Cyber Defense Initiative’ – notably plans to launch a new ‘open source’ tool based on AI, supposed to help cyber defenders better detect malware.

In a press release, Google emphasizes that it already uses this service, called ‘Magika’, in order to protect its Gmail email, Drive data storage and Safe Browsing secure browsing services.

The technology group explains that it now plans to make this tool freely available to other users so that they can use it and integrate it within their own systems.

Speaking from Munich, Kent Walker, Google’s president of global affairs, said AI puts defenders back at an advantage by removing complexity from operations.

“Our AI-powered cyber defense initiative reverses the defender’s dilemma, in which defenders must be right all the time and attackers must be right only once,” he emphasized.

This presentation is the latest in a series of announcements made by Google in recent weeks to highlight the benefits of AI in cybersecurity.

Over the period from 2019 until the end of 2024, the company plans to invest more than five billion dollars in data centers in Europe, notably to support its generative AI capabilities, such as the platform Vertex AI.
