Alpine emergency – cries for help in the fog frighten female mountaineers

Yesterday several mountaineers got into trouble in the Karawanks on the Koschuta. Mountain rescue and rescue helicopters were in action.

Two mountaineers from Klagenfurt Land and Völkermarkt climbed from the Koschutahaus towards the Koschutnikturm on Saturday at lunchtime. After a few hours, squalls and thick fog caused difficulties for the 37 and 31 year old women. They continued to climb towards the summit and waited for better weather.HelpDuring the climb, they suddenly heard cries for help from the East Gorge area. At the same time, a 74-year-old mountaineer was also in distress. He managed to climb to the summit area, but was already hypothermic and exhausted when he reached the mountaineers. They notified the Ferlach mountain rescue center via the emergency call. The pensioner was taken to the night winds. There he was picked up by the RK1 rescue helicopter and taken to the Klagenfurt Clinic. The two mountaineers were accompanied to the Koschutahaus by the mountain rescue team; they remained uninjured.
