Alstom and Arcada will modernize 66 km of the Romanian Cluj-Oradea railway line – 30/12/2022 at 14:27


(AOF) – Alstom, a global smart and sustainable mobility company, has won two new signaling and electrification contracts in Romania, as part of the modernization works of the first two sub-sections of the Cluj Napoca-Oradea line. The two contracts were signed by the Asocierea RailWorks consortium, made up of Alstom and the Romanian public works company Arcada, with CFR SA, the Romanian rail infrastructure operator. Alstom will provide state-of-the-art digital train control, traffic management and electrification solutions.

Arcada will carry out all the civil works. The performance period of each contract is 42 months.

The two contracts relate to the modernization of 66 km of double railway line between Cluj Napoca and Poieni (30 km for Cluj Napoca – Aghireș and 36 km for Aghireș-Poieni). It includes electrification, modernization of infrastructure and superstructures, signaling and telecommunications systems, as well as civil works.

Alstom will directly oversee the deployment of ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) Level 2, the implementation of the traffic control solution, the digital interlocking and passenger information systems, as well as the electrification works including power supply and overhead contact line. The modernization will allow the speed of 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight.
