Altach / Vorderland – out of the gate: a soccer player knows what she wants

Everyone knows the situation, teams are formed and an important position remains vacant – that of the goalkeeper. It is not uncommon for a field player to sacrifice herself so that training or the game can go on. The team is more important than the individual, right?

This is what Altach / Vorderland player Nadia Bendhim thought for a long time. “When I was eleven, my coach at FC Schwarzenberg put me in goal because we sometimes missed a goalkeeper,” recalls the 16-year-old. While she could still switch between goal and field at the club, she was soon just caught between the posts in the VFV selection, although that wasn’t her plan at all: “I just didn’t enjoy it.” To pronounce Nadia out loud at some point, namely when she was brought in by the FFC Vorderland in the summer of 2020. Since then, Nadia has only played on the field and with great success. She was in the Bundesliga squad eight times this season, made five appearances in midfield and performed well in the Altach women’s future team. So good that – due to her father’s Moroccan roots – she was invited to the U17 training course in November. “The team trainer found out about my games in Vorarlberg. It was a very interesting experience, ”explains Bendhim, who was able to live out her preference for the right-back position in Morocco in November. Now she hopes to be able to play in the first Altacherinnen-Elf after the winter break. After a few training sessions, she is enthusiastic about the new coach, Bernhard Summer: “It’s really fun. He responds to every single player and motivates and pushes us, ”says Nadia happily, who will be taking a three-week winter break with the team on Friday.
