Amazon about to buy Electronic Arts and become a video game juggernaut?

It is via sources of GLHF, which we learn that in theory Amazon should announce today that they have made an offer to buy EA. This obviously includes all EA licenses, both FIFA and Apex Legends, Madden, Battlefield, Dead Space etc.,

According to other sources, it seems that Amazon will not make an offer (see the tweet below). It’s hard to decipher right from wrong, is it a lying poker game between different sources, between different companies to up the ante or down?

These various rumors come from the fact that for several weeks there have been rumors circulating about a probable takeover of EA. The various potential buyers were none other than Disney, Apple or even Amazon. But since then, the information about this takeover had faded a little and we didn’t hear too much about it until today. We know that Amazon is trying to extend its field of action more and more, notably with its Amazon Prime Video streaming service, which offers exclusive sporting events, etc.

In addition, one of their competitors in the video streaming sector (Netflix) has had excellent feedback on its series devoted to certain video game franchises such as Arcane for League Of Legends, The Witcher for the game of the same name. So it’s likely that this move from Amazon is due to that given the many franchises owned by EA.

It should also be noted that we also had the takeover of Bethesda (Fallout, Skyrim, etc.) by Microsoft a little earlier in the year.

It is still early to know what Amazon really wants to do with Electronic Arts, but it could potentially be a good buyout, which could also allow the various franchises to take an additional step. Although overall the majority of EA’s franchises have been doing more than well for many years.

What can we imagine from Amazon with EA’s licenses?

If we take the example of the game FIFA which was published by FIFA for 30 years, we learned that the opus after FIFA 23 will be called EA Sports FC, so that Electronic Arts is free from the constraints of FIFA. So with the support of Amazon, they would be likely to go even further in developments, license buyouts and everything that can go with it.

We could very well also imagine an Arcane-style television series but dedicated to the different legends of Apex Legends with one episode per hero telling his journey, his past or even a fictional story.

Taking a third example with Battlefield, we often have historical narratives in-game, on the latest installment Battlefield 2042 we have a whole slew of “specialists”, we might have video content on them as well.

And next to that, given Amazon’s more than gigantic online sales platform, we could see more merchandising coming in related to the different licenses on sale.

Wouldn’t we be entering into a war of power between the different streaming services to monopolize as many video game studios as possible, because this is the content that works well with today’s society?

In any case, it is an announcement and a potential takeover that is likely to make a lot of noise if it does take place. And we can’t wait to know the end of the story.

Apart from new gameplay, new game modes, there is also the whole content aspect that is important in a FIFA. For this FIFA 23 will be no exception to the rule with no less than 5 new stadiums!
