An echo rarely comes alone – and perhaps the biggest advantage of the speaker series from Amazon is that all smart speaker models can be combined into a powerful choir. If these speakers are located in several rooms, it is called a multi-room setup.
Listen and stream music with Alexa: Here’s how
To listen to music via Alexa, you need an Alexa-enabled speaker and a suitable music streaming service. Here’s how to connect the two.
So if you want to make your apartment suitable for a party, you can connect the small Echo Dot with time display on the bedside table, the Echo Show 10 on the kitchen counter and all other Amazon speakers in the same WLAN network to form an orchestra.
Echo Multiroom: It works with these streaming services
While you can connect every imaginable playback device to a single Echo via a Bluetooth connection and then play content of your choice, multi-room playback is limited to a small group of streaming services.
You can only use the WLAN-based multi-room functionality of the Echo series if your audio streaming service can be connected directly to Alexa. The good news: With Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and of course the native service Amazon Music, the largest providers are essentially on board.
Music streaming services: Alexa compatibility
If you’re registered with smaller audio streaming services like Qobuz, you can’t really use the multi-room setup with Echo devices. In the USA, Tidal is already one of the compatible providers – but that is of no use to users in Germany.
With the Amazon subsidiary Audible, however, probably the most popular provider of audio books can be coupled with Alexa and can therefore also be played with Echo devices via a multi-room network.
Tip: Alternatively, you can connect just two Echo speakers into a stereo pair for better sound.
