Amazon is launching a revised copy of its entry-level Fire 7 tablet today and promises more battery life and performance for under $80.
It has been three years since the Amazon Fire 7 had a new version. It’s done today with the Amazon Fire 7 from 2022. Amazon therefore promises more performance, but also more autonomy for an always low price: less than 80 euros.
A hardware that does not dream, but for a cheap tablet
Amazon announces a 2.0 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT8168V/B processor that would be 30% faster than the previous version of the Fire 7. On RAM, it goes all out with twice as much RAM as in 2019: we therefore go from 1 GB to 2 GB. On connectivity, we find Bluetooth and WiFi.
On the storage side, two versions will be offered: one 16 GB, the other 32 GB. Expandable storage with a microSD card up to 1 TB. and a configuration without ads in the tablet, the former being a little cheaper obviously.
This touch pad charges via a USB-C port which takes about four hours with a supplied 5W charger. The brand also announces an autonomy of up to 10 hours (i.e. a priori 40% more than the previous generation). The other port we find is a 3.5mm audio jack.
A 7-inch screen, but not in HD
On a tablet, one of the most important elements is obviously the screen. Here, we are entitled to a 7-inch IPS panel, with a definition of 1024 by 600 pixels and a resolution of 171 dpi. No high definition then, but SD. No thin bezels either which makes the design inevitably dated.
Regarding the photo, the Amazon Fire 7 is equipped with a front camera and a rear camera, both of 2 Mpx allowing to record videos in 720p.
Different versions for different prices
If this Fire 7 is not something to dream about, Amazon takes its solidity as an argument by declaring that its tablet “was tested twice as durable as the iPad Mini (2021)“. The United States is “more luckysince they will be entitled to colors other than black: pink and blue. Moreover, Amazon presented there a version “Kidswith a more durable shell and a subscription to Amazon Kids+, which offers content suitable for children.
There are four configurations of the Amazon Fire 7 2022 release:
- 16 GB with advertisements: 79.99 euros
- 16 GB without ads: 94.99 euros
- 32 GB with advertisements: 89.99 euros
- 32 GB without ads: 104.99 euros
