Amazon Prime Video: Completely new interface – you need to know that

Amazon is comprehensively revamping the Amazon Prime Video interface. That is new.

Amazon Prime is getting a comprehensive redesign starting this week. The new interface should be clearer and not “overwhelm” users as much.

The new interface for Amazon’s streaming offering will be available within the Prime Video app on connected living room devices, including Fire TV, as well as on the Android app. Roku, Apple TV and Android TV also get the new interface. iOS devices and the browser version should only show the new design later. The new design is no longer available for the 3rd generation of Playstation 3 and Apple TV.

Vertical instead of horizontal

After the redesign, the main navigation bar is located on the left edge of the screen and no longer at the top edge of the screen. There you will find menu items/icons for search, start page, shop, live TV, free content and “My area”. The start page has submenus for videos, TV shows and sports – so sports fans should be picked up directly on the start page with the “Sport” menu item.

At the top of the home page, in the “My Subscriptions” row, you can access all the videos included in your Prime membership with one click.

top 10

A new Top 10 should show the user immediately what is currently particularly popular. Prime customers should also be able to see immediately what free content is available: a blue circle with a tick indicates the free content, while an icon with a gold-colored shopping bag indicates paid content.

In the future, the search will show live suggestions as you type. Search results can be filtered by genre and 4K. Customers also have the option of using subpages to more easily search for content or offer types, e.g. For example, “Movies” or “TV shows”.

Great carousel.

However, Amazon retains the carousel view for displaying the content. So-called “super carousels” with a portrait-like view and video preview appear when you go over an entry. This should set titles like Amazon Originals & Exclusives and Prime Video Cinema apart from all other titles.
