Amazon Prime Video copies Netflix: Inexpensive subscription model with advertising planned

While Netflix now offers you five different subscription models, some of which can be expanded with additional accounts, the selection on Amazon Prime Video is much smaller. You can choose between the annual subscription or the monthly subscription here, there are no differences in terms of content.

It’s different in the US. There you also have the option of subscribing to Prime Video separately from the extensive Prime membership. This option is currently not offered to you in Germany, which is probably due to the fact that Prime is significantly more expensive in the USA than in Germany. While you can use all Prime benefits in Germany for 8.99 euros per month, in the USA it is already 14.99 US dollars, the Prime Video subscription costs 8.99 US dollars.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Amazon Prime Video is now planning to introduce a cheaper subscription model with advertising, just like Netflix did with the standard subscription with advertising. With a price of probably 5 US dollars per month, the new subscription is attractive for subscribers, but also for Amazon, since the missing revenue is borne by the advertisers.

Since Amazon’s project is still in its infancy, it will probably take a few months before the subscription, which is partly financed by advertising, is actually offered. It is unclear whether the advertising subscription will also make it to Germany as long as the prime price in this country is still well below the costs in the USA.
