2024 - Amazon Prime Video: the programs not to miss in May 2022

Like every month, it’s time to take a look at releases on SVoD platforms. No big names on Prime Video in May, but some intriguing promises, including Gold with Zac Efron, and the series Towards the starswith JK Simmons.

Another very modest month in terms of big posters on Prime Video, but that doesn’t mean that Amazon’s platform doesn’t have anything interesting to offer. On the new side, several projects intrigue us. There’s the outdoor post-apo camera of Goldwith Zac Efron, the mysterious SF of Towards the starsthe intriguing thriller Waldowith Charlie Hunnam and Mel Gibson, or the documentary The meaning of winning, on the tennis years of Yannick Noah. We can also see season 2 of The Wildsthe second part of the first season of Italian bang bang babyand a series in the world of singer Lizzo, Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.

Mafia movie fans will also be spoiled, with the arrivals in the catalog of Freedmenof The French and the trilogy of Godfather. As for local moviegoers, they will be able to enjoy a collection dedicated to Bernard Blier, including The Valseuses, Quiet, Evening dress or Cold buffet.

Event of the month: GoldMay 9

Take the post-apo wasteland of madmaxadd a pinch of gold rush western and mix it all with a Zac Efron dirtier than ever, and you get Gold. The story of a man jealously guarding a huge nugget of gold while waiting for help from his college, supposed to arrive with an excavator to clear the treasure. Alone with his nugget, under the scorching sun of a dusty desert, he will be severely tested both physically and mentally. A kind of camera outside which promises to be suffocating, and for which the ex-star of Disney Channel was particularly abused, especially in terms of makeup. Let’s hope for some good staging ideas to avoid the strong concept film that falls like a soufflé.

We are curious: Towards the starsMay 20

After Outer Range last month, Prime Video continues its attempts at SF tinged with realism with Towards the stars. The story of a couple who discovered in their garden a portal leading to a distant uninhabited planet. A phenomenon kept secret for several years, before even stranger phenomena occur, coming to upset the lives of the two spouses. In the cast of this intriguing series, we find JK Simmons (Wip-lash) and Sissy Spacek (Carrie). Two protagonists who seem to evolve in a very neat setting, although it is difficult to imagine in which direction the series will go based on the first images. We expect all the same a program quite far from the standards of current SF, with in particular a rather contemplative approach.

We will be happy to see: The GodfatherMay, the 1st

Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert de Niro. Three immense stars who cross paths through the decades told in the trilogy of Godfather, by Francis Ford Coppola. Do we still need to present this essential saga? The turbulent history of the Corleone family in a post-World War II America, which will build itself and its empire by juggling between organized crime, politics and more or less legal trade. But above all, in this monumental fresco, absolutely memorable characters portrayed by actors and actresses at the top. An immense classic which is especially valid for its first two parts, and in particular a second episode alternating between two eras and two actors, Pacino and De Niro therefore, where everything seems to be settled like music paper for the pleasure of the spectator. Unmissable.
