Created and starring the brilliant Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the series has a uniquely transgressive identity, and deals with serious topics, such as depression, love addiction and socializing. A touching and brilliant series, and composed of only two short seasons, which will certainly touch you.

The Boys

When superheroes abuse their superpowers instead of using them for good, the Boys embark on a heroic quest to reveal the truth about The Seven and Vought, the conglomerate covering up their dirty secrets.

If you’re tired of too slick Marvel productions, The Boys is for you. Violent, irreverent, corrosive… The series is a clever variation on the super-heroic genre, questioning their limits, but also the excesses of our current society, from overmediatization to mindless capitalism. An excellent satire served by a cast of faces as detestable as they are adorable (Karl Urban in the lead).

Nine Perfect Strangers

Nine people who don’t know each other are brought together in a fitness center for 10 days, some to lose weight, others to rest. Each is ready to give their all to achieve their goal, but everything will become much more complicated than expected…

This behind-closed-doors series is both a brilliant psychological thriller and a real study of characters. Nine Perfect Strangers digs into everyone’s anxieties, tangles temporalities and weaves its mystery with a certain success, revealing some pretty twists. The icing on the cake, the cast is stellar: Nicole Kidman, Michael Shannon, Luke Evans, Regina Hall, Melissa McCarthy… A good, effective and captivating series.

The Master of the High Castle

The Americans lost World War II and America is now torn between the Empire of Japan and Nazi Germany. In 1962, a group of resistance fighters tries to send precious old films to the neutral zone, but transporting them costs the lives of many of them…

Adapted from the famous eponymous novel by Philip K. Dick published in 1962, the series The Master of the High Castle ventures into an ambitious work of transposition of a complex and reputedly unadaptable history. Wielding uchronia brilliantly, the series develops an exciting universe, served by an impressive artistic direction. One of Prime Video’s first big productions, with a nice cast; an essential series despite the years.

The Terror

The story of a dangerous journey by Britain’s Royal Navy through Canada’s northern seas, when the ship became trapped in the ice of the Arctic. It’s a tale of survival in an utterly unforgiving environment, heightened by the crew’s fears of an unknown threat.

This adaptation of a true and terrifying story mixes historical narrative, suffocating and supernatural behind closed doors, to deliver a brilliant series of formidable efficiency. The staging is elegant, the art direction neat, and the gloomy and icy Victorian atmosphere works wonderfully. If the first season is great, we will however avoid the second of this horrific anthology, which is much less convincing.

The adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson are propelled into 21st century London.

This adaptation of the cult hero of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, created remember it in 1887, reinvents the character by placing him in the era of the Internet and the mobile phone. A mischievous rereading by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat (Doctor Who), which revitalizes the most famous adventures of the detective thanks to our modern technologies. Benedict Cumberbatch is terrific as Sherlock, and all four seasons (and 15 episodes) are a delight to devour.

Invincible

When Mark Grayson develops his superpowers at the age of seventeen, he joins his father as one of Earth’s Mightiest Superheroes. His dream finally comes true, when a terrible event comes to upset everything.

Far from being a basic super-heroic series, Invincible turns out to be gripping and surprising. His desire to desacralize the figure of the hero allows him to adopt an irreverent, violent and (a little) gore tone, which brings a breath of fresh air to the genre. The reflection on the family and the weight of the heritage is also well brought and the characters are endearing and really original.
