[Deal du jour] Amazon offers a range of e-readers, from entry-level to more premium models. The standard Kindle and the Kindle Paperwhite are suitable for a wide audience, and are currently on sale.
What is the Amazon e-reader promotion?
Amazon has two Kindle models on sale:
- The entry-level Kindle (2022 model),
- The Kindle Paperwhite, a little more premium, but good value for money.
Each Kindle comes in two flavors, with or without ads. The model with ads displays sponsored content on the lock screen and during standby mode.
Kindle (2022 model), the most affordable
The Kindle 2022 comes in two models: with ads or without ads. The first is sold at a price of €84.99 instead of €99.99. The ad-free model, usually priced at €109.99, is priced at €94.99.
What is the Kindle 2022?
Released in 2022, this compact Kindle has a 6-inch anti-reflective touchscreen, i.e. a diagonal of 15 cm. It offers a definition of 300 dpi with good contrast and excellent brightness. The screen and texts are perfectly sharp, and even if the light can be a little aggressive, visual comfort is there. Note that you can still adjust the brightness in the settings. The option to remove the blue light is unfortunately not available. However, the presence of a dark mode allows reading in the evening, when the ambient light is at its weakest. While reading, you will be able to customize the text font and size, and access basic features.
Connected to your computer by USB-C and via the Caliber software, you can easily transfer your ebooks to the Kindle. Its 16 GB storage capacity allows you to store thousands of books. Ebook formats (Epub, Epub3, PDF, etc.), and digital comics formats CBR and CBZ are present. Although the menus are ergonomic and mostly responsive, browsing the Kindle store can be a pain. Browsing in the catalog of ebooks indeed suffers from slowdowns that do not always make you want to look for a book. For the most patient, the Kindle subscription at the price of 9.99 euros per month allows you to read many titles, and the presence of manga is appreciable. Count six weeks of autonomy in the case of regular use, and a good month for more sustained use.
Kindle Paperwhite, good value for money
The 16GB model with advertisements of the Kindle Paperwhite is priced at €124.99 instead of €159.99. The ad-free 16GB model, which normally retails for €169.99, is priced at €134.99.
What is the Kindle Paperwhite?
The Kindle Paperwhite is a more complete model. It has a larger screen, 6.8 inches in size, with integrated lighting, for very good reading comfort. It offers a resolution of 300 dpi as well as excellent brightness. Its screen offers a glare-free display that allows reading in most lighting conditions, even in bright light. You can also change the color of the screen, and choose between white and warm light. The Paperwhite is a thin and light e-reader, but its nearly 18cm diagonal can be a problem for smaller hands.
Features related to visual comfort are present, as well as many settings and customizations. The Paperwhite offers a big autonomy of about 10 weeks, in the case of a regular reading. The store is also more fluid with this model and the Kindle subscription at a price of 9.99 euros per month is of course accessible. The classic ebook formats (Epub, Epub3, PDF, etc.) and the CBR and CBZ formats, for comics, are of course compatible. This model is IPX8 certified, and resists accidental immersion in water. Finally, note that 60% of the plastics used to manufacture Kindles are recycled.
