Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series finally gets a name in the first trailer

It’s been over four years since Amazon first announced the Lord of the Rings series. Now there is finally the first short trailer and it reveals the name of the series. “The Rings of Power” is the title of the allegedly most expensive series of all time.

Lord of the Rings on Amazon: Returning to Middle-earth this fall

Under the name of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” appears on September 2, 2022 the new series on Tolkien’s worlds on Amazon Prime. The title, which admittedly doesn’t sound quite so pretty, was unveiled in the form of a first short trailer.

Unfortunately, there are no real scenes from the series yet. The name is cast in a mold with liquid metal, accompanied by a first impression of the series’ music. A female voice can also be heard repeating Galadriel’s words from Peter Jackson’s first The Lord of the Rings film, listing which peoples were given Rings of Power and how they were all betrayed by Sauron.

What should the series be about?

The series finds its setting in second age of Middle-earth, several thousand years before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring. It will be about the forging of the rings and how the dark lord Sauron tricked the elves into making them. Further topics are said to be the fall of the Numenor and the last alliance between humans and elves. As the title now reveals, it is not just about the history of one ring, but about the history of all rings of power. (Source: The Hollywood Reporter).

“Stupid CGI Trailer”

Many fans were probably hoping for a little more than just a few yellow and red lines as the first trailer. But thanks to the colleagues at IGN, we know that this little trailer consists largely of practical effects and not just animated on the computer.

With an alleged budget in the billions, this is perhaps the least, but it also gives hope that the series will also rely on real sets and practical effects. The Lord of the Rings trilogy in particular is still celebrated by fans today for the fantastic work of Weta Workshop, who were responsible for much of the special effects and equipment.

Since the planned release is already scheduled for autumn 2022, the next trailer shouldn’t be too long in coming.
