A first teaser published by Amazon allows you to discover the name of the series of the Lord of the Rings.
The wait is almost over. It is in 2022 that the Amazon series on The Lord of the Rings will air on Prime Video. And on Wednesday January 19, 2022, the American streaming platform unveiled a short teaser of the series which allows us to present the title of the series: The Rings of Power, that is Rings of Power in French.
The teaser itself doesn’t show anything very directly, but as the video develops, we guess we’re witnessing the magic rings melting stage. Once off then detaches and then recites an Elvish poem that evokes artifacts and their holders. This passage is however incomplete, because the poem, in principle, goes further.
” Three rings for the Elven kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarven Lords in their stone dwellings,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to death,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne,
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. »

In Tolkien’s work, we know above all the One Ring, which is a magic ring that gives its wearer extraordinary abilities, starting with becoming invisible when worn on the finger. But there are also others, which are more generally called the Rings of Power. And this is where we find another faculty of the One Ring: it dominates them.
The reason is that the One Ring contains part of Sauron’s power. This is also why the Lord of Evil wishes to seize it: in his possession, this servant of Morgoth would regain all his power. That’s why the free people of Middle-earth once ganged up on him to deprive him of it and try to destroy this evil artifact.
We know several of these Rings of Power. We know that nine of them were distributed to Men, but these objects ended up enslaving them and their nine carriers became the famous Nazgûl, sorts of specters masked in darkness and extremely dangerous who are charged by Sauron to hunt down anyone who holds the One Ring.
The Elves also hold three Rings of Power, but they escape the power of the One Ring. The Elves, in their wisdom, chose to hide these artifacts. The Dwarves also received it. The fate of all these rings is very variable: they were kept or destroyed, some donated, others destroyed. All of them were forged officially for them.
In doing so, we do not know the fate of all. The three held by the Elves are the best known: they are called Narya, Nenya and Vilya and were the most powerful after the One Ring. Sauron never has control of it. Several famous bearers have handled them: Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel, Celembrimbor, Círdan or Gil-galad.
Among the Dwarves, only the trace of a ring is known: that of the People of Durin. These rings are described as responsible for the lust for gold that plagued some of the Dwarfs of Middle-earth, such as Thrór and Thráin. It is also said that Sauron succeeded in recovering not only the ring of the People of Durin, but also two other rings belonging to the Dwarves.
As for the nine rings of Men, they are the ones that have had the most harmful impact. They were corrupted by their power and became Nazgûl. The fate of these nine rings is discussed: they may have been destroyed at some point or returned to Sauron’s control. One thing is certain: the overlord of evil already dominated the minds of these fallen kings.
It was Celebrimbor who forged these rings, those of Men, Dwarves and Elves. For the record, it is with Sauron that he forged those of Men and Dwarves (hence their harmful character). But, realizing the plans of Sauron, who then pretended to be a certain Annatar, Celebrimbor, alone made the rings of the Elves and hid them, so that they would escape the Enemy.
Only the One Ring was made underground in Orodruin, a volcano north of Mordor. It is also in this desolate place that it can be destroyed, in the flames of the mountain. All of this is known to anyone who has either read Tolkien’s novels or seen the film adaptation directed by Peter Jackson, with The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
