On June 1, the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial delivered its verdict after 6 weeks of debates that made headlines.

The actress was sentenced for defamation of Johnny Depp and will have to pay 15 million dollars in damages to her ex-husband.

This sum was eventually scaled back to 10.35 million (due to a local law capping punitive damages).

The actor was also convicted of defamation. He will have to pay $2 million in compensatory damages to his ex-wife.

Judge Penney Azcarate, who was in charge of this defamation lawsuit, formalized the jury’s decision with a written order. This was finalized during a hearing in Fairfax without the presence of the two interested parties.

According Deadline, the case is not yet over. Amber Heard has let it be known that she intends to appeal this decision, if she manages to pay a large deposit.

Elaine Bredehott, lawyer for Amber Heard, said her client wanted to appeal. The judge told her that she had to file a petition with the court and pay a bond of 8.35 million dollars, with interest of 6% per year, for the appeal to be officially accepted.

Amber Heard’s lawyers have 21 days to complete the documents relating to the appeal request. Note that when the verdict was announced, Amber Heard’s lawyer declared that the actress could not “absolutely not” pay 10 million in damages to Johnny Depp.

The garnishment of wages, the declaration of personal bankruptcy and the appeal were then mentioned as possible solutions.

The legal battle between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp is therefore not quite over yet.
