The next generation of graphics cards
AMD will have to stand up to NVIDIA’s Lovelace architecture.

After a generation “sacrificed” due to endless shortages, the graphics card world is slowly turning towards the future. A future that AMD places under the acronym RDNA 3.

Zen 4 and RDNA 3 are in a boat…

Revealed several months ago, AMD’s roadmap places the RNDA 3 architecture as a logical replacement for RNDA 2. observers have expressed doubts.

On the occasion of the publication of the company’s financial results, Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, wanted to be reassuring: ” For 2022, demand for our products will remain very strong. We expect another year of growth and gains for our stocks as we develop our current products and prepare for the next wave of CPUs and GPUs, Zen 4 and RDNA 3 “.

Lisa Su therefore very clearly associates the year 2022 with the launch of the new generation of GPUs. It does not stop there and confirms at the same time that the new CPUs – based on Zen 4 – will also be there.

Upgrade to TSMC N5 and N6

In parallel with this speech by Lisa Su, the LinkedIn profile of an AMD employee – since retired – confirmed the technical evolution linked to the switch to RDNA 3. Multiple rumors indeed evoked an evolution towards the new burning processes. from TSMC.

On his profile, Brian Walters, engineer for 27 years at AMD, had listed the names of the first RDNA 3 GPUs planned by the firm: Navi 31, Navi 32 and Navi 33, nothing very exciting. More interestingly, the engineer also specified that the first two would use two different processes, the N5 and the N6 from TSMC.

Navi 31 and Navi 32 are therefore provided in 5 nm and 6 nm. On the other hand, Navi 33 would only be engraved with the 6 nm process. This duality of processes could confirm what rumors announced a little while ago: Navi 31 and Navi 32 would be based on a design multi chip module while Navi 33 would be a monolithic GPU.
